Wednesday Night Revolution
Tomorrow night, the Goethe-Institut Washington is screening Gillo Pontecorvo's 1966 film "The Battle of Algiers" as part of its "Revolution is in the Streets: 1968 Film Series." Shot in semi-documentary style, this film is truly a work of art and is a must-see regardless of your political leanings. Though it portrays events from the Algerian War of Independence from 1952 to 1960, there are many similarities that can be drawn between that conflict and the current ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pentagon even screened it for their staff in 2003 to put the events in Iraq in context. For more information about the program, click here.
